I worked at our company's boot shop for nearly five years, and in that time, not a week went by without someone asking for a rear-entry boot, or at least why they don't make them anymore. It's an interesting discussion, because they quite simply went away all of a sudden. Four-buckle boots became the norm, putting the comfortable and easy to use rear entry's on the shelf. Enter the Nordica HF 85 women's ski boots. Nordica hasn't just re-released the last version of their rear-entry boot, they've created something totally new. One of the proprietary things that Nordica has going for it is the fact that the liner is now one piece, while before it was two. The liner is cut and stretched along the ankles so you can still open the back of the boot wide, but it's connected so that it provides better overall fit and performance. The 85-flex rating is also modernized, with the ability of the boot to be able to flex more naturally than before, making it easier to get the boot and the ski to bend to the skier's will. The instep buckle makes a lot of sense-certainly more than the old-school dials that used to tighten a wire within the boot. This way is a lot more comfortable, in addition to being a higher-performance standard. 102 mm wide in the forefoot, these boots are comfortable and warm, making it easier to spend more of your time out on the hill, and less time warming your feet or at the boot fitters.
